While reading this chapter by Bolter about E-Books and electronic digital libraries, I was able to come away with more than just writing knowledge. While I learned that writing today is switching from a more print and text space to a more digital and hypertextual writing space, allowing for greater sharing of information between peers and people alike. With more people turning to devices that allow them to store all of their literature in one place, I also realized that this seems to be a growing trend in general, not just with writing. I wrote earlier in the year that iPods are used to store all (if not most) of ones music in one place, and these E-Books seem to be the iPods of books. But I didn’t learn this from just my prezi on Chapter 5, the prezi about hyperlinks also solidified my understanding that we are turning to a more digital style of writing while attempting to make anything and everything available at once.

The prezi used a dark blue background with white text which is good because it makes the overall presentation look nicer. The use of videos aided in comprehending the prezi. The metaphoric pictures were definitely a plus for the prezi. It was overall and interesting presentation as the videos and pictures broke up the monotony of just audibly presenting their material.
This chapter was about the opportunities that books authors create with their books, that there can by multiple paths in the same book. It points out one of the values of being able to read and see text: you are able to go back and re-read and reflect and gaining a greater understanding of what it is you are reading. The prezi also points out that the web allows for people to represent themselves while allowing millions of people to see each other’s representations of themselves.
1)
What else does digital media to do books?
2) Are there any negative impacts that digital media has on books?
3) How do authors create multiple paths in a single book?
Chapter 8
This presentation didn’t really utilize the full potential of prezi in my view. The background was a boring white with default black text, nothing was really made to stick out. The uses of pictures were helpful in getting the point across along with their commentary. Although it wasn’t to creative the prezi was very direct and to the point.
This chapter was about the importance of being able to read text in general. It’s stated that books were authoritative because of their stability and simplicity. The group pointed out that we give authoritative properties to Websites when in fact they aren’t and these are properties that are important when it comes to text.
1) Why aren’t websites as authoritative as books?
1) Why aren’t websites as authoritative as books?
2) Will websites ever become authoritative?
3) What is the real purpose and nature of reading?
4) is the poststructuralist theory only relevant to hypertext?
5) What makes Hamlet more praised than a 20th Century novel (in relation to the prezi)
Chapter 4
The presentation on chapter 4 is about just how useful print text is and was and that the book redefined ways in which we can communicate. It explains that texts such as newspapers are starting to resemble computer screens because of all the images they use and how texts in general can resemble something on the internet as the use of images instead of words become more and more popular as people gradually switch to hypertext. It poses the notion that words by themselves do not carry the same authority that the picture carries with the words and that images enhance the conviction of the text. The presentations also points out that hypertext is more flexible in its writing standards, meaning that with many different links to more information, order is not necessarily a priority while in standard text it obviously is.
At the core of the presentation is the observation that images are slowly overtaking the use of words. Something that used to be almost completely textual, like the newspaper, is suddenly becoming a medium for images to be placed alongside the text. It states that even though words and images have different methods by which they can be analyzed that they still compete for the same writing space. A main argument is whether or not words can mean as much as its image. It argues that “words should be seen, not just read” which implies that there is more to a word than just the text of letters that make up the word.
1)
Why are words and images competing for the same writing space?
Why are textually-based documents turning to images? Can words have the same meaning as images?
4) What is the difference between MUD’s and MOO’s?
Chaper 3
Chapter 3 was about how one “link” in hypertext can actually be electronically connected to many other pages. It explores the many uses links have, such as allowing people to search for related topics or provide more information. Links give us greater access to information very quickly. They are able to supplement what you are reading as well give you information on related topics and give structure to websites. However, just like when there were people who didn’t like using books, some people find the use of links and hypertext somewhat confusing, even though it is meant to make thing
1) 1) Is this the new future of writing?
2)
2) Will this permanently replace regular text?
3) 3) Is it truly to our advantage to use hypertext instead of text

It used to be that only notable and distinguished authors who could write very well were able to have their books published. The average person was not able to have their thoughts, ideas and stories published unless they were incredibly well written and this left many people who could possibily be the next Twain out of the spotlight because they have no way of publishing their work. But with the more and more prevelant use of electronic space and hypertext, people are able to make their works and ideas known and are able to post these ideas to blogs, websites or other similar places on the internet. This greatly increases the exposure authors and writers will receive because now their work is available for all to see on the internet.
